Derek Rouch

Governing Board Member, Romoland School District Trustee Area 5

I hold firm to the belief that all students can learn. I had the privilege of teaching middle school math, science, and language arts for Romoland School District from 2011 to 2013. I currently teach 7th and 8th grade English in Lake Elsinore Unified School District. I was elected to the board in 2014 and am looking forward to serving Romoland for the next four years.

M.A. Ed. Digital Teaching and Learning Azusa Pacific University 2012
B.A. Human Development Azusa Pacific University 2009
I have a multiple subject teaching credential as well as a single subject credential in math, with additional authorizations in English and computer concepts and applications. My teaching stems from a philosophy of constructivism—but I am even more grounded in my fundamental belief that positive student-teacher relationships drive success.
Petroleum Engineering, Colorado School of Mines 2003 – 2005
Applications Engineer at Conductive Cable
Before becoming a teacher, my background was in engineering.  I attended the Colorado School of Mines, and later went on to work as an engineer for an international cable and wire manufacturing company.

Students first.

It’s a simple doctrine, and it’s the sole driving force behind my educational philosophy. As a board member, I will always work to:

  • Ensure that all decisions are made with our students’ best interests in mind
  • Base those decisions on current, research-proven best practices
  • Emphasize a rich 21st-century curriculum and the sound teaching of integral skills that will put every RSD student on track towards college and career readiness

I will also support current faculty and staff by promoting ongoing, systematic professional development—ensuring that all RSD educators can effectively deliver the best instruction to all of our students, all of the time.
